The purpose of this Privacy Notice is to describe how African Institute of Technology and Innovation (AITI) collects, uses, and shares information about you through our online interfaces (e.g., websites and mobile applications) owned and controlled by us. Our Privacy Policy is fueled by our commitment to these Privacy Principles: We’re deeply committed to creating a safe and secure online environment for you. We will not sell your personal information to third parties. We established AITI on the mission to educate students on the technological skills needed in the job market. We strive to provide you with access to and control over the information you give us, and we take the protection of your information very seriously.

WHAT DATA WE COLLECT

We collect certain data from or about you depending on the services you use on the platform. Some of the data collected are as follows; Account Data: Data such as your email address, passwords and things required to set up an account on the platform are collected. Profile Data: As a student/Instructor on the AITI Platform, you will be required to put in your photo, biography and other data that can be viewable by others. Educational Content Data: We have access to content sent using the platform such as your assignment, course work or test/quiz given to you on the platform, also content sent by instructors. Student Payment Data: when making payment for the course enrolled for the platform certain data such as credit information, billing address will be required to facilitate payment.

CONTENT ENROLLMENT AND ACCESS

Communicate with you about your account by: Responding to your questions and concerns;

  • Sending you administrative messages and information, including messages from instructors, students, and teaching assistants; notifications about changes to our Service; and updates to our agreements; Sending you information, such as by email or text messages, about your progress in courses and related content, rewards programs, new services, new features, promotions, newsletters, and other available instructor-created content (which you can opt out of at any time);
  • Sending push notifications to your wireless device to provide updates and other relevant messages (which you can manage from the “options” or “settings” page of the mobile app);
  • Manage your account and account preferences and personalize your experience;
  • Facilitate the Services’ technical functioning, including troubleshooting and resolving issues, securing the Services, and preventing fraud and abuse;
  • Verify the identity of instructors;
  • Solicit feedback from users;
  • Market products, services, surveys, and promotions;
  • Market Subscription Plans to prospective customers;
  • Learn more about you by linking your data with additional data through third-party data providers and/or analyzing the data with the help of analytics service providers;
  • Improve our Services and develop new products, services, and features; Analyze trends and traffic, track purchases, and track usage data;

WHO WE SHARE YOUR DATA WITH

We may share your data with third parties under the following circumstances or as otherwise described in this Privacy Policy: With Your Instructors: We share data that we have about you (except your email address) with instructors for educational content you access or request information about, so they can improve their content for you and other students. This data may include things like your operating system, device settings, and certain activities on AITI, like enrolled courses and course review. We will not share your email address with instructors. (Account Data; System Data; Usage Data; Approximate Geographic Data). With Other Students and Instructors: Depending on your settings, your shared content and profile data may be publicly viewable, including to other students and instructors. If you ask a question to an instructor, your information (including your name) may also be publicly viewable. Note that within the platform, all chat rooms, message boards, news groups, or other public forums available to students are publicly visible to other students, so you shouldn’t post any confidential or proprietary information through those features. (Account Data; Profile Data; Shared Content) With Service Providers, Contractors, and Agents: We share your data with third-party companies who perform services on our behalf, like payment processing, fraud and abuse prevention, data analysis, marketing and advertising services (including retargeted advertising), email and hosting services, and customer services and support. These service providers may access your personal data and are required to use it solely as we direct, to provide our requested service. (All data categories) With Business Partners: We have a partnership with other tech partners and companies to distribute our Services and drive traffic to the AITI platform. we may share your data with these trusted partners. (Account Data; Learning Data; Communications and Support; System Data).

SECURITY

The AITI platform takes appropriate security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction of the data that we collect and store. These measures vary based on the type and sensitivity of the data. However, no system can be 100% secured, so we cannot guarantee that communications between you and AITI, the Services, or any information provided to us in connection with the data we collect through the platform will be free from unauthorized access by third parties. Your password is an important part of our security system, and it is your responsibility to protect it. You should not share your password with any third party, and if you believe your password or account has been compromised, you should change it immediately and contact our Support Team with any concerns. The flash drives issued to students are AITI’s property. In the event that a student misplaces it, a replacement will be issued by AITI with a price attached to it.

MODIFICATIONS TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

From time to time, we may update this Privacy Policy. Note, that any changes made to the policy, we will notify you via email, or through a notification post on the platform. We will also include a summary of the key changes. Unless stated otherwise, modifications will become effective on the day they are posted.
